Although no Chinese passengers are aboard the maiden cruise, Silversea has high expectations for the Chinese cruise market. In May, the cruise line will run a three-week promotional campaign in China, including road shows.

"A great growth is expected in our customers from China, especially for the expeditions," Odell says.

"Typically, in the Chinese mainland market, the wealth is more concentrated in a younger demographic than in other markets. It falls on the ages between 35 and 55 rather than the 50s and 60s in others. The younger clients are more adventurous and are looking for unique experiences."
