Dali has many names. Among them are "Geneva of the East" and "City of Flowers", because of the city's colorful culture, breathtaking nature and gorgeous climate making it suitable for various species of flowers.
And synonymous with Dali is Erhai Lake, one of the largest highland lakes in China. Shaped like a human ear (er in Chinese means ear and hai means sea), the lake is the source of livelihood for local fishermen.
It is a major draw especially by cyclists, who could enjoy a leisurely ride while taking in the sights. In addition to the allure of the crystal clear water, the gentle lake breeze and quaint villages, cyclists could also get to know fishermen from the Bai ethnic group.
If you are lucky, you may chance upon a village fair where local snacks and fruits are aplenty.
