Canada Day

No matter what passport you hold, this celebration has something for everyone. The Canadian International School grounds will be buzzing with kids' games, live music, performances, a ball-hockey tournament and more. Tickets cost 80 yuan ($13) in advance at the Canada China Business Council office or 100 yuan for adults and 30 yuan for children 5-12 at the door. Kids 4 and under free.

Camp season

The American Employees Association of the US embassy runs summer camps for kids ages 4-12, with themes ranging from colossal fossils to viking sails and dragon tails. There are plenty of outdoor activities, too - crafts, swimming, rock-climbing and more. The cost is 3,380 yuan or less per week. Students at the host school get a 20-percent discount.

Cracker comes to town

One of the city's oldest underground live music houses welcomes Cracker, an aging alternative rock band from the US front-manned by David Lowery, this weekend. The band's gold-selling album Kerosene Hat recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, but the blues-infused twanging guitar of Euro-Trash Girl and wallowing-in-the-mud spirit of Low retain much of their appeal. Tickets cost 80 yuan at the door or 60 yuan presale.

Cansai de Ser Sexy

If you haven't had your fix of all things Brazilian this month, then head to Qianshuiwan to check out Cansai de Ser Sexy at a World Cup quarterfinal party. The Brazilian pop/rock/electro outfit, known for songs like Music Is My Hot Hot Sex and Meeting Paris Hilton, bring a decade of performing experience to Shanghai. They have toured with Gwen Stefani and are popular fixtures at leading festivals in Europe and Asia. Tickets cost 180-240 yuan.

Street art party

Mr Men & Little Miss character creations of 100 local Hong Kong celebrities, artists and illustrators will be on display at the Peak Gallery. The art pieces will be donated to a charity sale after the show. Visitors will be able to create their own characters as well as soak up a mini-carnival complete with a bar, snack kiosks, a tattoo station and gaming booths every Sunday and public holiday. Events are free with a purchase from the Peak Galleria mall.

1,600 Pandas Hong Kong tour

Adorable paper mache pandas will be flash mobbing around Hong Kong to bring a little cheer and raise awareness of conservation issues. The collaboration between the World Wildlife Federation and French artist Paulo Grangeon also includes four special pandas created just for the Hong Kong visit. The pandas will be popping up at more than 10 local landmarks before heading to PMQ for their final stop.

Technasia Homecoming

Technasia returns to its place of birth in Hong Kong, when it was formed to put Southeast Asian dance music on the map in 1996. The group has since moved on to Paris, but founding member Charles Siegling is back to where it all started to show how far they've come.
