Stable Sino-US relations will benefit the world's largest developing country and the largest developed economy, and the world, Premier Li Keqiang said on Friday.
Li made the comments in Beijing at a meeting with representatives of the Committee of 100, a non-partisan organization of US citizens of Chinese descent. Every member has achieved leadership positions in the US in a range of professions.
Li said China still has a long road to modernize. With a population of 1.3 billion, China's modernization presents vast market potential. The two countries' economies are highly complementary and offer mutually beneficial opportunities.
Both are Asia-Pacific countries. Regional development requires all nations to exist harmoniously, treat one another with equality and cooperate for regional peace and stability, Li said.
The premier praised the Committee of 100's efforts in promoting Sino-US relations.
He said its work is fundamental. Respective public opinions are the foundation of Sino-US exchanges, and such exchanges generate mutual understanding and allow US citizens to understand China's realities.
Li welcomed the committee's visit to China and said he is willing to listen to the representatives' opinions.
The committee's head Wu Jianmin presented the results of surveys conducted by the organization to measure understanding between the two countries. Wu suggested more US teachers and journalists visit China to enhance government and public understanding.
Other representatives addressed such issues as improving cities' public facilities, the coexistence of China and the US in the Asia-Pacific region and expanding cultural exchanges, during the meeting with Li.
