SHENZHEN - Hosts China does not set any medal target at the upcoming Shenzhen Universiade, said Yang Liguo, the executive head of the Chinese delegation.
"The Universiade doesn't emphasize too much on the competitive part of the sports," said Yang. "So we switch our attention to participation and communication."
"We are trying to learn from other delegations. As to the medal table, I think we will just try our best," he added.
Hosts China sent an 804-member delegation to the Shenzhen Universiade, including 505 athletes from 110 universities and collages. They are to compete in all the 24 sports in the Universiade.
"We have no specific aim about winning medals in the Universiade," said Yang Yang, an athlete from Peking University. "It will be a success for me if I make many friends from other parts of the world during the event."
The Shenzhen Universiade, which is to open on August 12, has attracted around 13,000 athletes and officials from about 180 countries and regions.
