Shekou Bicycle Rental Service Co. will build more bicycle stands near Metro stations in Shekou to promote greener commuting.

At stations on Line 2 such as Dongjiaotou, Shekou Port, Shuiwan, the company will set up 50 bicycles for commuters to travel from home to Metro trains, according to the company.

To encourage residents to use public transport, the Shenzhen transport commission planned to pilot rental bicycles in Nanshan and Yantian districts after the Universiade. The bicycle stands will be installed in residential areas, business centers and at Metro stations.

Shekou in Nanshan District was the first area to pilot bicycle rentals. Shekou Industrial Zone Management Committee launched the service with Shanghai Forever Bicycle Co. in September last year, setting up 16 bicycle stands and providing 350 bicycles for rent in communities and office areas.
