350 guests to attend FISU Conference

About 350 experts and professionals in sports research and management will attend the 2011 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Conference Aug. 13 to 16 at Shenzhen University.
They will come from 42 countries and regions, including the United States, Russia, France, Britain and Australia. Officials and representatives of athlete delegations attending the Universiade would also attend the conference, said Zhang Bigong, president of the university.
In conjunction with the Universiade, FISU organizes the conference every two years in the city hosting the Summer Universiade. The first FISU Conference was held in 1960 in Magglinge, Switzerland.
There will be 12 keynote speeches delivered at the conference on topics related to the Beijing Olympics, London Olympics, sports management and university sports education, said Zhang.
The conference would also select outstanding academic dissertations in related fields. Shenzhen University had so far received 871 papers from students in more than 50 universities around the world.
Shenzhen University would also stage an exhibition of Chinese seals to celebrate the opening of the conference Aug. 8. Seals and calligraphy featured in the exhibition were all created by local artist, Zhong Guokang, who is one of the leading artists in design and creating traditional Chinese seals. All the exhibits were specially designed and made by Zhong in a sports and Universiade theme.
The exhibition will also be taken on a tour of nine universities around the world after the Universiade, including Harvard and Oxford universities.
