MUNICH - Former president of Bayern Munich Football Club Uli Hoeness will be released from prison on Feb 29 after serving almost half of his three-and-half-year sentence, German media cited justice officials from Augsburg district court as reporting.

Hoeness was sentenced in March 2014 by a Munich court to three years and six months in jail of evading taxes estimated at 28.5 million euros ($31.1 million). Three months later, the former Bayern boss began his sentence after giving appeal up and he spent seven months behind bars completely.

After then he has been on day release from prison since early last year and has been working with FC Bayern's junior team department.
