Yoo, 42, makes a comeback to the national team as the head coach after a one-year absence, during which he concentrated on his semi-pro club. He won the gold medal in men's table tennis singles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and also took gold at the 1986 and 1990 Asian Games.

Kang had been an assistant coach for the women's national team headed by Hyun Jung-hwa since 2005. He won the bronze medal in the men's doubles together with Lee Chul-Seung at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

Yonhap News Agency quoted an official with the table tennis association as saying that the two new coaches are expected to successfully fulfill their duties because of their wealth of experience both as players and coaches.
