GUANGZHOU - South Korea's Choe Hyeongmin upset the hopes of Iran and Kazakhstan to win the gold medal in road cycling men's individual time trial at Asian Games on Saturday.

Choe, 20, completed the 53.4km course in time of one hour eight minutes 16.12 seconds to win by more than 10 seconds. Kyrghyzstan's Eugen Wacker took the silver with Iran's Hossein Askari claiming the bronze more than 20 seconds further behind.

Choe was the 2008 Asian champion in the discipline. Choe's win is the fourth gold medal South Korea have won in the discipline at the Asian Games, but the first for 24 years since Shi Dae-Chul took gold in Seoul in 1986.

Pre-event favorite Kazakhstan's Andrey Mizurov of Kazakhstan, bronze medalist at the Doha Asian Games, finished only sixth, some 1:08.76 further behind.
