GUANGZHOU - China claimed the gold medal of the women's 100-meter freestyle relay at the Guangzhou Asian Games on Sunday.

Chinese teenager swimmers Li Zhesi, Wang Shijia, Zhu Qianwei and Tang Yi all performed well and led throughout the race to clock three minutes and 36.88 seconds, Japan took the silver in 3:37.90, while Chinese Hong Kong finished third in 3:43.17.

"We are satisfied with the result," said Li Zhesi. "We all performed very well in the relay. We did good teamwork."

"I like to mention that We have a new member in the relay team, Wang Shijia, and I think she did a very good job today," she added.

The Japanese team trailed the Chinese very closely in the third 100m, but failed to catch up finally.

"It's a little disappointing that we only claim a silver, but we'll keep training hard to get better results in the future," said Yayoi Matsumoto.
