Vuvuzela banned at Asian Games

The infamous vuvuzela, which caused a storm of controversy during the South African World Cup, will be banned from all Asian Games venues, Guangzhou Daily reported on Wednesday.

Zhang Youquan, deputy director of the civilization office of Guangzhou government listed items at a news conference Monday that are not allowed to be carried in the Asian Games venues, including the vuvuzela and whistles.

All venues are non-smoking, thus lighters and matches are not allowed in. The banned list also includes musical instruments, drink, food in large amounts that can be easily thrown. Balls, rackets and frisbees are also forbidden.

Spectators violating etiquette during the games will be advised by volunteers, and may be referred to security if they refuse to stop the violation.
