GZ to take advantage of Asian Games for international outreach

An inspection team from the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou People's Congress (SCGPC) visited various organisations in the city to find out more about the city's interaction with its sister cities around the world.

During the visit, SCGPC Chairman Zhang Guifang, stated that Guangzhou will take advantage of the Asian Games and the Asian Para Games to showcase its remarkable socio-economic growth to its international sister cities and the whole of Asia. He also called on Guangzhou people to do their part in hosting the Games and to boost Guangzhou's profile as a city of openness, civility, harmony, tolerance, and hospitality. He said that he is confident that the Asian Games will become a people's diplomacy drive for Guangzhou as well.

Mr Zhang also pointed out that building partnership with its sister cities is a major part of Guangzhou's international outreach drive, adding that Guangzhou will increase its efforts to expand economic and trade ties with its sister cities around the world in order to facilitate the transformation of the city's economic development mode.

He also stated that Guangzhou will increase cooperation with its international sister cities in science and technology, improve the city's management standard, and take advantage of sister cities' resources and channels to train professionals with international vision, specialist knowledge and strong management skills.

Mr Zhang revealed that in line with Guangzhou's increasing interaction with the outside world, the city will organise a greater variety of public exchange programmes with sister cities.

According to Mr Zhang, Guangzhou will further improve its work plan in relation to international sister cities, set long- and medium-term goals for its international outreach drive, and be paired up with more influential international cities; the city will also launch a number of high-level international exchange programmes to expand its name recognition, and strong efforts will also be made to bring the quality and quantity of Guangzhou's international sister cities into line with the city's status and socio-economic growth.
