HONG KONG - Hong Kong cyclist Steven Wong said on Monday that he is looking forward to competing in the inaugural BMX event at the upcoming Asian Games in Guangzhou, and winning the gold medal.

"I cannot deny that I am going for a medal. I definitely will stand on the podium, but I still need to work a hundred percent hard for it," said the five-time Asian championships winner.

"Now everything is going really really well. I am feeling very comfortable with training and everything is more than perfect. I am feeling really motivated and trying to keep that way," he added.

Wong won his fifth straight title at the 5th Asian BMX Championships on October 1 in South Korea, keeping unbeaten run against his Asian rivals except for the Chinese National Games last year.

A sudden malfunction of his bicycle just after the start of the final round cost him the gold medal at the 11th National Games in October 2009.

Wong said he has learned a lesson from the accident and would prepare two bicycles for the Asian Games.

However, the 22-year-old HK star said it will not be an easy competition in Guangzhou.

"People might think that I have won five Asian Championships and that I compete those competitions like playing, actually it's not ture," he said. "Although I never lost (in Asian-wide competitions) in the end, every time it is not easy. I can see the other guys have really improved and everybody is putting a lot of effort into it."

Wong will not leave for the Asiad until around November 15, four days before the competition takes place.

"The track looks more or less like the one in HK, similar kind of style, so I think I would have a slight advantage of training here in HK," he said.
