World champion Zhang starts with gold rush at National Games

JINAN: China's world record holder Zhang Lin seized the spotlight powering to a comfortable victory in the men's 400m freestyle at the Chinese National Games here on Saturday.

Zhang, China's first male world champion in Rome and world best holder, clocked 3:44.29 to beat archival Sun Yang, bronze medalist of Rome Wolrds, by 1.10 seconds.

The world record of the event is 3:40:07.

The victory made the perfect start to Zhang's ambitious National Games campaign aiming at possible six gold medals.

Zhang, Olympic men's 400 meters freestyle silver medalist and 800m free champion in Rome, will compete in six events, including 100, 200, 400 and 1500 free and two free relays.
