LONDON-- Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel might be out of action for weeks due to an injure in his knee in Sunday's 3-2 win over Manchester City.

The win, however, was overshadowed by a knee injury to defender Martin Skrtel, who was taken off the field on a stretcher after colliding with Ched Evans in the 87th.

"Martin has twisted his knee and we will have to wait for the scan but we think it could be serious," Benitez said. "That's the bad news for us today."

After the match, Skrtel was hobbling around the stadium without crutches.

The Slovakian centre-back fell on his right leg and was then stretched off with his leg heavily strapped.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez confirmed the 23-year-old will have a scan on Monday.
