LONDON - Charlton manager Alan Pardew fears Zheng Zhi's impressive form might make the China midfielder a target for Premier League clubs.

Zheng scored twice to help Pardew's side consolidate fifth place in the English Championship with a 4-1 home win over Blackpool on Saturday.

The double took Zheng's goal tally for the season to nine and Pardew joked that he would prefer his star to score less - because it would stop big clubs noticing him

"With the transfer window open I almost wish Zheng Zhi would stop scoring so many." Pardew said. "It was an excellent win. The atmosphere was good in the stadium and we responded well.

"The team functioned well, they were full of pace and energy and it was as good a performance as we have had at home this year. With the way other results have gone it's a massive result for us."

It was Madjid Bougherra who headed Charlton into a sixth-minute lead. Luke Varney doubled their advantage four minutes later before Ben Burgess pulled one back for Blackpool.
