Germany are without midfielder Tim Borowski, captain Michael Ballack and leading striker Miroslav Klose against the Irish.

However, with just two points dropped from their eight matches so far, only a bizarre sequence of results will deny them their customary place in Europe's showpiece tournament.

The top two teams in each group will join the co-hosts in the 16-team finals which start with the opening match on June 7 in Basel and finish with the final on June 29 in Vienna.
