BERLIN - The German Football Association or the Deutscher Fussball-Bund (DFB) has submitted the official letter of intent to document the interest in hosting the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, the association said Wednesday.

DFB President Theo Zwanziger and General Secretary Horst R. Schmidt signed the letter and addressed it to FIFA, the world's governing body of football.

"Women's football enjoys an increasing popularity in Germany. Games of our national team are broadcast on major television stations. Home games draw tremendous crowds. Our team has played a beautiful game over the last few years," the letter said.
