Top seed Bartoli beats Nakamura to win in Tokyo (Reuters) Updated: 2006-10-08 14:10 Top seed Marion Bartoli beat
Japanese wildcard Aiko Nakamura 2-6 6-2 6-2 to win her second career title at
the Japan Open on Sunday.
The Frenchwoman struck back after a poor start
to storm through the second and third sets as Nakamura wilted in her first WTA
Tour final.
"It's nice to be top seed and win a tournament -- it's the first time I've
achieved that," said Bartoli. "Roger Federer may be used to it because he's
always number one but I'm not."
World number one Federer was playing Britain's Tim Henman in the men's final
later on Sunday.
Bartoli's victory in Tokyo improved her record since last month's U.S. Open
to 13 wins in 16 matches and was worth $28,000 in prize money for the world
number 22.
Her first title came in Auckland at the start of the year. Bartoli was also a
finalist in Bali last month.
