France's Alexandre Premat will drive Midland's third car in Friday practice at next week's Chinese Formula One Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old will test for the Silverstone-based team, bought by Dutch sportscarmaker Spyker this month, at the English circuit on Wednesday.

"I've been waiting for this day since I first started racing," he said in a statement on Tuesday. "I'm determined to show my full potential at Shanghai and show I have earned it."

Premat finished third overall in Formula One's GP2 feeder series this season.

Second-placed Brazilian Nelson Piquet junior has landed a test driver role with Renault while Britain's champion Lewis Hamilton could race for McLaren in 2007.
