A total of 374 volunteers were selected for the International Softball Federation (ISF) XI Women's World Championship, organizers said on Monday.

The competition among 16 teams will be held in Fengtai softball field in Beijing from August 27 to September 5.

Most of the volunteers came from Capital University of Economics and Business, while five other higher education institutions including Beijing Foreign Studies University and Tsinghua University supplied specialized volunteers, in addition to a certain number of volunteers from the community.

Organizers' meticulous preparation and publicity brought about active application. Capital University of Economics and Business sent out 2,200 application forms from May 24 to 29, with 1,460 valid forms returned, 2.8 times the number of volunteer posts needed.

The applicants got through examination and interview by venue staff to test their knowledge about the Olympic Games, Olympic spirit, security, protocol as well as English-speaking competence. After a short period of basic training, 51 core volunteers entered the competition venue on July 22 to receive further training.
