KAMEN, Germany _ Spain striker Fernando Torres hopes Zinedine Zidane will end his career as a loser.

The France playmaker will retire after the World Cup so Tuesday's second-round match against Spain could be his last.

"I suppose for him it's important to go far in this tournament because it will be his last big appearance, but we will try to make sure that doesn't happen," Torres said Sunday. "We hope that this will be his last match."

Torres, who scored three goals for Spain in the group stage, said he didn't fear the 1998 world champion and questioned France's current form. Spain won Group H with three consecutive wins while France finished second in Group G after two draws and one win.

"They ended up in second place for a reason. I don't think that it was by accident," Torres said. "We know that it is a great team, and we have respect for them as (former) world champions, but we don't have any fear."
