Turku is the former capital of and the oldest city in Finland. It is located in the coast, at the mouth of river Aura in the Southwest part of Finland. There are some 180,000 people living in Turku, which makes it the sixth biggest city in Finland.
Turku is at its best during the summer, as the old river boats parked permanently by the river open for business and you can enjoy refreshing drinks while watching people passing by on the river banks.
The Finnish summer is very pleasant as it rarely gets over 25 degrees Celsius. But when it does that, people dress lightly and head straight to the beach and enjoy the weather to the full, as the hot weather it might last many days. In the summer the city is full of activities, all kinds of cultural activities, music festivals and theater performances.
The market place in Turku is a must stop every time I visit my home. In the summer I might stop by for a coffee and a ice cream and buy some fresh fish from local fishermen. [Photo by Youxiudeyou] |
