The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and five other central government departments recently released the 2021 National Green Data Center List in a bid to advocate energy conservation among data centers and lead them down a green development path that is efficient, low-carbon, economical and recycle-oriented.
Three data centers based in Liangjiang New Area made the list – the China Mobile (Chongqing) Data Center, the No 2 building of China Unicom Southwest Data Center, and the Inspur (Chongqing) Cloud Computing Center.
The so-called green data center is a platform for data storage, management and transmission, whose IT system, refrigerating system, lightening, and electric equipment have achieved the highest level of energy efficiency but have minimal impact on the environment.
The list included data center evaluation in five categories – communications, internet, public institutions, energy and finance.
Based in western China and serving the whole country, the China Mobile (Chongqing) Data Center is Chongqing's largest and most productive data center.
The No 2 building of the China Unicom Southwest Data Center officially began operating in October 2017 and has created its own clean energy system by optimizing its refrigerating system, power supply and distribution system and the power consumption of its IT equipment and virtualizing its resource pool.
The building has reduced energy usage by 60 percent and water consumption by 3,405 metric tons annually.
The eco-friendly principle was followed in the original design of the Inspur (Chongqing) Cloud Computing Center in terms of architecture, drainage, power supply, heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Meanwhile, advanced operational models are adopted in the building to save more on human resource costs.
UK trade commissioner for China praised Chongqing as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
