During this year's Spring Festival holiday from Feb 11 to 17, Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality handled more than 11,000 transmission extension units (TEUs) of containers at its Guoyuan Port.
Since the beginning of this year, Guoyuan Port has taken measures to meet the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, low water level and unbalanced container supply and delivery demand.
The port is currently seeking cooperation with major shipping companies at Shanghai Port, Taicang Port, and along the Yangtze River's tributaries to reduce the transportation time between Chongqing and Shanghai. Guoyuan Port is also exploring new shipping routes along the Jialing River, Jinsha River and Wujiang River to complete the Sichuan-Chongqing area's container transport network.
In January, Guoyuan Port handled 79,000 TEUs of containers, a year-on-year increase of 25.6 percent.
In the future, Guoyuan Port will give full play to its advantage in multimodal transport to build a logistics channel to Central and West China and help Liangjiang become an inland gateway for opening-up.
UK trade commissioner for China praised Chongqing as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
