Four major logistics projects started construction in Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, on Jan 4. Once completed, the developments will form an international logistics hub centered on Guoyuan Port.
Liangjiang's Guoyuan Port is China's largest river-railway-road combined transport port and a shipping hub connecting the Yangtze River Economic Belt with the Belt and Road Initiative.
Among the four major projects, the south station yard of Yuzui railway freight station will cover an area of 545 mu (36.33 hectares) with a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan ($232.34 million).
Upon completion in 2022, the station yard will consist of two stations. It will become an international container station yard handling 600,000 transmission extension units per year.
Another major project is the logistics base of China COSCO Shipping Corporation. Relying on Guoyuan Port's location advantages, the logistics base will provide services such as river-railway-road combined transport, container loading and unloading, future delivery of bulk commodities, e-commerce and logistics finance.
The second stage of Chongqing Guoyuan Bonded Logistics Center has also started construction, with a development area of 105,000 square meters and an investment of 500 million yuan.
When the center's second stage finishes construction in October of this year, it will provide one-stop import and export services for companies. The center's first phase started operation last January and achieved $118 million in foreign trade in 2020.
An intelligent operation center for multimodal transport also started construction on Jan 4. It will connect with the online platforms of customs departments at other ports to provide logistics services for the government, companies and individuals.
UK trade commissioner for China praised Chongqing as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
