Southwest China's Chongqing municipality has both planned and launched a series of policies to boost the development of its new energy vehicle industry.
According to the policies, a manufacturing innovation center related to the new energy vehicle industry that is recognized at national level will receive an R&D support package of up to 30 million yuan ($4.45 million) per year from the year of recognition until 2022.
Municipal level centers will receive support of up to 5 million yuan per year.
For new energy vehicle-related projects with an investment of over 5 million yuan, Chongqing will give a subsidy of 20 percent of the investment. The subsidy is up to 5 million yuan per project.
Chongqing has also set up special funds to provide up to 10 million yuan of subsidy for each project related to new energy and intelligent vehicles.
In addition, Chongqing has built charging stations for new energy vehicles in 85 expressway service areas and some downtown areas. The city plans to add 30,000 charging piles this year, including 10,000 quick charging points.
Chongqing will continue to promote the construction of charging facilities in new buildings and existing parking lots, add charging stations for buses, and build more charging facilities at expressway service areas and in private parking lots.
To promote the use of new energy vehicles, Chongqing will reduce the price of pure electric taxis, offer 30 percent of the price for taxi companies purchasing new energy vehicles, and support the battery changing and vehicle maintenance of pure electric taxis.
UK trade commissioner for China praised Chongqing as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
