On June 29, Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality launched the construction of 14 major projects totaling 6 billion yuan ($849.63 million) at Guoyuan Port, with the aim of building the port into a national logistics hub.
The projects include a customs inspection area, which will be the port's main functional facility covering an area of 433 mu (28.87 hectares), with an investment of 400 million yuan.
The area will be equipped with check points, a less-than-container-load warehouse, grain inspection warehouse, quarantine treatment area and office buildings.
The area is expected to provide a one-stop customs inspection service for foreign trade companies and improve customs clearance efficiency.
Another capacity expansion project of Guoyuan Port has a planned investment of 600 million yuan and will cover an area of 210,000 square meters.
The project will include a container stockyard, machine repair rooms, mobile machinery warehouses and other supporting facilities. Of these, the container stockyard will cover an area of 110,000 sq m with an annual capacity of 400,000 transmission extension units.
All the projects will serve the construction of a logistics hub in Chongqing, and provide multimodal transport services with low costs.
Guoyuan Port was approved as one of the first national logistics hubs in 2019. Based on the port, Liangjiang strives to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the New Land-Sea Corridor.
By improving the level of internationalization, comprehensive service and its business environment, Liangjiang aims to take the lead in Chongqing's opening-up.
UK trade commissioner for China praised Chongqing as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
