The customs departments of Southwest China's Chongqing and Chengdu cities signed a memorandum of cooperation on promoting development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone on Dec 17.

According to the memorandum, Chongqing and Chengdu's customs will work together to support the construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, and promote connectivity between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

The customs departments will jointly promote the sustainable operation of the China-Europe freight trains, share the transport advantages of the Yangtze River, support the development of foreign trade, strengthen port security, and prevent illegal activities in customs areas.

Mechanisms that allow staff members, officials and departments from both customs to communicate will also be established to guarantee successful cooperation in the future.

The cooperation is considered as practical measures to implement a series of agreements signed between Chongqing and Chengdu in July, which will further opening-up and high-quality development in both areas.
