Liangjiang New Area, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality signed an agreement with National University of Singapore (NUS) on Sept 11 to establish a joint research institute, which will be settled in Chongqing Liangjiang Coordinative Zone.
The NUS (Chongqing) Research Institute will set up four platforms covering advanced materials and manufacturing, information engineering and artificial intelligence, modern logistics, as well as finance and risk management.
Based on the success of Singapore's smart city construction, the research institute will promote the modern logistics system in Chongqing to realize the steady development of resources, ecology, and society.
The research institute also aims to create a dynamic ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as provide support for high-tech innovative enterprises in Singapore and around the world.
In addition, it will cultivate high-level talents and host academic conferences to facilitate international exchanges and improve the international influence of Liangjiang.
The establishment of the research institute will help with scientific research, talent introduction, and industrial transformation in Chongqing, promoting the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity
According to the 2019 QS World University Rankings, National University of Singapore ranks first in Asia and 11th across the world, with several subjects ranking among the top 10 nationwide. The university has three research centers of excellence and 30 college-level research institutions.
To date, Liangjiang has cooperated with at least 15 famous universities and research institutions at home and abroad, such as Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
