Over 2,000 runners participated in the fifth five-kilometer race at the Yuelai International Expo Center on April 1.

The race was hosted by the Liangjiang New Area Party working committee as an opportunity to promote company team spirits and physical qualities of employees.

Yang Jincai, vice inspector of the Liangjiang New Area administrative committee, joined the ranks of runners.

"To accelerate the construction of an opening-up highland and pursue a high-quality lifestyle is not only the instruction of General Secretary Xi Jinping, but also the goal towards which we march," said Yang in his speech.

Participants were divided into six groups during the event by gender and age so that everyone could taste the fun of competition.

"In a forest of steel and iron, it's a rare chance for me catch a breath of fresh air and a glimpse of Mother Nature," said Luo Shengli, champion of the junior men's group and a fireman in the Liangjiang New Area.
