Lacquer paintings incorporating eggshells, silver foil and mother-of-pearl are on display at the Star Art Space in the Liangjiang New Area.
The modern lacquer painting exhibition opened free to the public on June 13 and will last until June 22.
The exhibition has gathered more than 200 paintings created by 43 students from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.
Chen Enshen, a professor at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, explained that lacquer painting techniques originated for lacquer wares dating back 8,000 years, but lacquer painting was revived and developed as a distinct genre of fine art in the 1930s.

Chen added that lacquer painting is more complicated than common painting, as it utilizes the application of colored lacquer, silver leaf and hard materials including eggshell and mother-of-pearl.
