The opening of Liangjiang International Movie City was the hottest ticket in Chongqing over the three-day New Year holiday, with 420,000 visitors flocking to the Republic of China-era replica city streets.
The full-scale model city is similar to that of the movie sets at Heng Dian Studios in Zhejiang, where films can be shot on location as well as providing a unique tourist attraction.

More than 230 Republic of China era buildings replicating Chongqing’s unique landscape have been reproduced, including the Xinhua Daily building, Cathay Theater, the Hengdali Clocks and Watches Shop and the Bazaar Photo Studio.
Visitors strolled past stilted houses, the Chongqing Dock along the Yangtze River and the Ancient City Gate. The reconstructed buildings in the movie city hark back to when Chongqing served as the provisional capital of the Republic of China during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. The streets full of replicas of stores, banks, cafes, and mansions give off an authentic feeling of ancient Chongqing.
UK trade commissioner for China praised Chongqing as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
