The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently said Chongqing's information development index for 2015 reached 72.18, showing the city's high information level. The index figure increased by 6.69 over that of 2014.

Among the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities assessed in 2015, Chongqing ranked 12th.

The information development assessment system includes the networked readiness index, the information and communication technology application index and the application effectiveness index.

Chongqing's broadband popularization index of 2015 was 84.43, a top-ten figure in China.

The information and communication technology application index rose to 18 from 16 in 2014. The figure’s growth rate was 6th among the 31 regions.

The application effectiveness index ranks 11th with the innovation index and energy saving and cost-reducing index ranked 8th and 5th respectively.
