After sending 99.9 yuan ($15) as a present to his ex-girlfriend, who had sent a mobile phone request, 26-year-old Zhang only sent an 8.80 yuan gift to his current girlfriend.

She found the message, felt deeply hurt and wanted to end their relationship. But Zhang apologized profusely and sent her another New Year's gift, this time for 999 yuan.
