Liangjiang's market supervision bureau said they have accepted and processed a total of 1240 complaints and saved consumers' 5.35 million yuan in the first half of the year, the official website of Liangjiang New Area reported on Aug 20.
Among the 1240 cases, 970 were from industrial and business sectors, mostly related to contracts, after sales services, ads and package labels.
There are also complains against automobiles. Some consumers complained that they failed to get after-sales services. By communicating with manufacturers and vendors, the supervision bureau has solved the consumers’ problems.
There are other complaints related to foods, drugs and medical products. Complaints on food mostly claimed that food was spoiled or had illegal ingredients. Some complained commercials exaggerating the products’ effects.
The market and quality supervision bureau of Liangjiang New Area was set up on June 16, 2014. It integrated the functions of several authorities where complaints are common. It also set up a department for consumer protection and a committee to protect the rights of consumers.
"In the past, if citizens had quality problems, they had to go to several departments. Now, they only need to go to the complaint center," said Wang Lifeng, head of the bureau’s consumer rights protection department. By the end of this year, 20 liaison offices will be set up to improve efficiency and make sure all consumers can enjoy the benefits.
In May the bureau developed a market credit supervision platform, allowing consumers to upload their complaints via mobile app, while supervisors receive the complaints at once, allowing them to solve problems as soon as possible.
Liangjiang is planning to make market inspection a regular event and guarantee a healthy consumer environment through supervision of food, drugs and services.
