One of the world's largest steel producers, ThyssenKrupp AG, said in June 2013 that it aims to establish a galvanized steel plant in Yufu Industrial Park, located in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area - China's only inland new area and the country's third sub-provincial area of its kind.
The plant will be ThyssenKrupp's second investment project in Liangjiang, following the establishment of a ThyssenKrupp Elevator (China) Chongqing branch in the New Area in Sept 2011.
It will also be ThyssenKrupp Galvanized Steel Co and Angang Steel Company's third production line in China, and ThyssenKrupp's first inland production line in the Chinese mainland, and it is expected to provide components for the automotive industry in Chongqing.
Its annual output is expected to reach 10,000, with an annual output value reaching 1.8 billion yuan ($294.12 million).
ThyssenKrupp said that it has confidence in the investment environment in Chongqing due to its advantageous logistics competitiveness, as it serves as a traffic hub involving the Yangtze River in western China. And the company also said that it would be able to sell its products and services directly to the automotive factories in Chongqing.
It added that steel producers require convenient logistics, and Chongqing is an attractive investment choice due to its developed railway, land and water transportation.
The company said that the city's market potential is another attractive feature, as Chongqing is one of China's five major automobile manufacturing bases, and its annual automobile output is expected to reach 4 million by 2015.
It added that, though local manufacturers can provide 70 percent of the parts for automobile factories in Chongqing, the car panels are usually manufactured in other cities.
Chongqing is expected to produce 4 million automobiles annually by 2015, and the local demand of panels will reach 2 million tons each year.
UK trade commissioner for China praised Chongqing as a burgeoning center in intelligent manufacturing.
