Russian Researchers Launch “Virtual Actor” in 18 Months

Computer is a machine without any feeling developed by human beings for specific purpose. However, Russian researchers will announce a robot with emotions in 18 months. The researchers said the robot can think like human being, and gradually accumulate trusts to human being.

According to report of Sina Science and Technology, the system is called Virtual Actor, and developed by National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.

The robot is named Virtual Actor because one of its main functions is to be an actor and play a certain specific role. Researchers said it can understand what is happening now and follow the pace.

The robot can not only learn by preset programs or enhanced learning technology, but also can think like a human. It must be able to set learning target, propose corresponding problems to realize the objectives and actively seek for answers. The first step of the researchers is to analyze working pattern of human brains.

Researchers said their main target is to summarize basic norms of natural intelligence owned by human brain. "The natural intelligence is superior to artificial intelligence in aspects of adaptability, learning ability, and prevention ability for unforeseeable disturbance. We hope to establish a model of these criteria on a computer",said Alexei Samsonovich. Researchers also plan to create the media of the artificial intelligence to simplified version as a computer game. They said the figures on computer screen can be controlled with real human by virtual media for interaction so as to establish favorable social relationship based on the behaviors driving by emotions.

Alexei Samsonovich said "I wish artificial intelligence can get rid of human defects. Nowadays with ceaseless development of biological and gene weapons, artificial intelligence is the future technology findings with the minimum hazards. I believe it will be a great step for human beings, and also a big deal".

This is not the first time for scientists to propose plan creating robots with emotion. Earlier in this year, Sony has announced to develop a robot which can establish emotional contact.
