JD.com recently signed an annual handset purchase agreement valuing 10 billion yuan ($1.612 billion) with Huawei, one of China’s largest communication equipment makers.
The agreement is the largest one of its kind for JD.com. Wang Xiaosong, general manager of the communication equipment purchase and sales department of JD.com, said the Honor series mobile phone launched by Huawei in 2013 have proved to be one of the most popular brands for consumers on JD.com, and the 10-billion-yuan agreement will help offer consumers more choices at affordable prices.
JD.com played an important role in boosting the sales of Huawei’s mobile phone products. The sales of the Honor 3C series, which was launched at the end of 2013, exceeded 10 million handsets. The Honor 4X series sold more than 6 million handsets within five months.
On November 11 last year, the black Friday in China, the Honor series topped all handset brands in sales. It also delivered satisfying performance in the first quarter this year. The JD-Honor flagship store opened on April 8 on JD.com.
