BOE taking a hard look at commercial display screen market
As China's production capacity for digital displays grows, so does the competition in related technology and innovation and Beijing's BOE Technology Group is increasing commercial applications of its displays, and has become a major domestic supplier of bus-mounted display screens for public transport.
BOE is located in E-town, Beijing's Economic Technological Development Area and got into the vehicle-mounted display field at the end of 2006, explains E-town's E-times weekly, and, by this past December, had a 40-percent market share of mobile displays on buses, 40-percent for subways, and 60-percent for high-speed railways in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Qingdao, Shandong province, and Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. It is currently developing the vehicle-mounted display market and has cooperation agreements with internationally known enterprises.
It is also cooperating with the Ping An Bank on display applications for financial purposes. It helped with the Ping An smart bank branch in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, which has multi-purpose zones for finance, trade, sales, assistance, wealth management, a 24-hour self-help area and e-bank experience area. Many BOE smart displays are in use in the bank, providing services to meet different needs. Other products at work are its 110-in screen, glasses-free 3D, and mosaic screen.
BOE has seen some breakthroughs in the field of telemedicine and wearable devices, working with the US's Meta Corp to develop devices, user interfaces and display enhancement based on the TFT - LCD, Amoled display technology. Zhang Yu, the vice-president of BOE Technology, explains that the company will promote its display technology for medicine, traffic, vehicles and other commercial applications and, in addition to providing display screens and hardware in cooperation with top brands, it will extend its upstream and downstream industry chain and vertical integration and focus on application innovations, terminal customers with systems for finance, medicine and other areas, and terminal products under its own brand.
