First Italian design day held at Tongji University

The Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai and Tongji University jointly proclaimed Mar 2 as the first ever Italian Design Day.
Stefano Beltrame, consul-general of Italy in Shanghai, introduced the attendees to the country's brands and advantages in design, paying tribute to its profound culture and industrial modernization.
Wu Jiang, vice president of Tongji, briefed the attendees about the school’s development in the art and design majors, and expressed a desire for more inspiring and vibrant cooperation between the two sides.
Prestigious scholars from the two countries delivered lectures on various topics, ranging from the confrontation between ancient and modern artistic designs to the reflection on the protection, promotion and innovation of folk arts.
The event was part of a global initiative involving 100 cities all over the world. The event will be repeated in March 2018, featuring a large exhibition of materials, experiences and established collaborations.
