Construction underway on private school

A topping off ceremony was held in Binhu district of Sanmenxia on Dec 29, to celebrate the start of the construction of a Jiangsu-based Qinghuayuan School.

The 120-million-yuan ($17.44 million) project will cover an area of 78 mu (5.2 hectares), with 36 primary classrooms and 24 middle school classrooms, accommodating a total of 2,400 students.

Qinghuayuan School is a private group that pursues a student-oriented education which approaches teaching from comprehensive aspects, rather than the more traditional state-run system.

"The educational cooperation with Jiangsu is a big step for the local education," said Li Qinghong, deputy mayor of Sanmenxia, during the ceremony.

"The rich resources of Qinghuayuan will be taken into full usage to promote Sanmenxia's education," Li added.

The school is expected to be completed and opened in August this year.
