Fire prevention is an important duty for governments across China, especially in winter, when heaters and dry weather conditions increase the risk of fire. Mianchi county in the city of Sanmenxia, Henan province, is no exception.
The government of Mianchi aims to achieve a zero rate of fire in the county this winter and has implemented four aspects into their fire prevention strategy.
As a prerequisite to any practical work carried out, the local government has stressed the importance of having an adequate knowledge of fire prevention. Leaders of authorities are required to follow and supervise the work by themselves to ensure a complete working mechanism for fire prevention.
A total of 68,000 yuan ($10,630) has been spent by the government on materials related to fire prevention work. The materials are aimed at raising awareness of fire prevention methods among locals.
Supervision work has been allocated to individuals and a 24-hour watch system has been mapped out. After taking a professional training course on rescue organization, supervisors are required to be reachable by phone all day, to minimize risks.
The local government has organized several field exercises to perform rescue work in places easy to be attacked by fire in recent weeks. It has also invested more than 200,000 yuan to purchase and upgrade necessary facilities for firefighting.
Aside from providing e-commerce training course and attracting investment, fire prevention work is part of the local government's efforts to improve the livelihoods of people in the city.
