'Space revolution' powers up Lujiazui

A "space revolution" is hitting Lujiazui by the end of this year, with a total of construction area of one million square meters, nine commercial buildings put into use, including the Lujiazui Century Financial Plaza. Another three buildings, including the Shanghai Tower, are nearing completion.
During the 12th Five-Year Plan, Lujiazui came up with 10 construction projects, including the Shanghai Tower and Lujiazui Binjiang financial city, to ease the over-saturated commercial building markets.
By the end of November, Lujiazui had 227 commercial buildings with eight or more floors, taking up a total above-ground construction space of 11.12 square kilometers.
The Shanghai Tower will feature financial and wealth management, cultural creation space, entertainment and sightseeing after it begins operation in mid-2015. It will also have the highest observation platform Shanghai has ever seen.
In addition, the 387,000-square-meter Century Metropolis, an integrated modern service cluster center in Pudong, known also as "Pudong's Xujiahui", will be put into operation by the end of 2015. Five buildings above ground are connected by curtain walls, while the underground space will be developed into a transport and commercial hub, with subway lines 2, 4, 6 and 9 intersecting here and a metro business circle put into use.
Earlier, the 140,000-sqaure-meter Lujiazui Century Financial Plaza started operation in June 2013. It has rented 90 percent of its office space to financial enterprises. Moreover, with the launch of the Pudong emerging Internet finance base in the plaza, a cluster of Internet financial enterprises are ready to flock in.
