The city of Sanmenxia, Henan province has come up with a novel way to polish its name and increase its popularity and influence across China -- a 200-kg bronze relief of a Sanmenxia landscape with people.
And where is the large piece of art headed -- to a Chinese naval warship.
How did that happen? Back on April 23, 2013, the local government, Party, and military district leaders wrote to the People's Liberation Army asking it to name a new guided-missile frigate the “Sanmenxia”.
And, when the plea got a positive reply in 2013, local officials set to work dreaming up an idea on how to make the warship really represent the city. So, the half-ton bronze work was moved from Sanmenxia to Shanghai’s Hudong Shipyard for installation on the ship, on Sept 20.
