The semi-final selection of the "citizen representatives" of this year’s Summer Davos Forum was held on July 26 in the host city, Tianjin. 16 contestants stood out and will fight over the last eight entries in the final.
The selection, which started on July 1, enrolled 40 local candidates for the semi-finals held in four differently themed groups, namely science and technology, economics, education, and general knowledge.
The jury, consisting of renowned scholars, journalists, and entrepreneurs, picked out 16 of the 40 contestants for the finals on the basis of their performances, including teamwork spirit and presentation skills.
About 90% of the contestants — whose occupations range from engineers to doctors — hold a masters degree or above, and many have even studied abroad or have overseas work experience.
The eight winners of the final taking place at the end of August, will be hailed as qualified "citizen representatives" of the Tianjin Summer Davos Forum 2014.
