The Summer Davos office of Tianjin Television hosted interviews for the selection of Summer Davos citizen representatives on July 12. 100 candidates were given interviews from the 800 applicants. After examination and evaluation, 40 of them will enter the quarterfinals. They will take part in speech and debate competitions and eight of them will become 2014 Tianjin Summer Davos’s representatives.
This year's candidates are highly educated. 90 percent of them are undergraduates and 60 percent of them have masters or PhDs. The candidates have been divided into four groups representing economics, technology, education and entertainment. Experts and scholars from colleges and research institutes are organizing the evaluation group and interviewing candidates. The interview includes two parts which include a personal statement and expert questions covering their knowledge of the world economy and the theme of the Davos conference. The interview also evaluates their level of English, expressive ability and so on. The judges grade each person and then choose 10 people depending on their grades to enter the next round of the competition.
The quarterfinals, which will reduce the 40 down to 16, will be held on July 21 and July 25 and will be based on the speeches and debates. After that, the 16 people will enter the final competition and eight of them will become 2014 Tianjin Summer Davos's representatives.
