French tire manufacturer Michelin Group and the Chengdu city government announced on Tuesday that the 12th session of Michelin Challenge Bibendum will be held at the International Intangible Cultural Heritage Park in Chengdu, Sichuan province, from Nov 11 to 15.

First held in 1998, Michelin Challenge Bibendum is an international event focused on road sustainable mobility, and it has been held in cities including Berlin, Paris, Shanghai and Rio de Janeiro over the past 15 years.

This will be the third time the event has been held in China. It was held in Shanghai in 2004 and 2007.

During the five-day event, participants in different fields concerned with the development of sustainable road mobility and related social issues, including energy suppliers, policymakers, university and research institutions will gather to discuss the possibilities and visions of sustainable road mobility

"We are firmly convinced that sustainable road mobility will not only create new business opportunities, but also benefit individuals as well as the entire society," said Patrick Oliva, corporate vice-president of the French tire maker.

"We hope this Michelin Challenge Bibendum to be held in Chengdu will attract more automobile companies and vendors to consider business cooperation and investment in the city, which we think will strengthen our international competitiveness in the auto industry," said Mu Tao, chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Chengdu Sub-council.
