A specialized symposium on Feb 20 to discuss the conservation of swans and their habitats has brought together officials from Sanmenxia's forestry, planning, tourism, housing and water conservancy departments, as well as news agencies in Sanmenxia, Central China's Henan province.
Following the passing of the Decision to Further Strengthen Conservation of Swans and Their Habitats at the 11th session of the standing committee of Sanmenxia municipal people's congress on Dec 25,2013, the symposium focused on the decision's implementation and effects and discussed giving priority to infrastructure construction and regulations specific to the conservation of swans and golden pheasants.
The attendees at the symposium carried out a lively discussion giving their points of view specific to their areas of expertise, and a variety of advice, including the setting up of a special campaign to fight against rare animal hunting, sewage pipe networks construction and tour inspections along river courses, were put forward during the debates.
Wan Jianxun, director of the standing committee of Sanmenxia municipal people’s congress, was also on hand at the symposium to address his opinions. He pushed to identify the corresponding responsibility of every governmental department and speed up the planning of protected areas.
He asked that infrastructure construction be accelerated and every commercial development which could destroy the wetland’s ecological environment be held back. He also agreed with advice from other attendees regarding sewage treatment and specialized regulations.
Niu Lanying, vice-mayor of the city, attached a lot of importance to a long-term workable system and responsibilities in her speech.
Sanmenxia aims to make its name as “the City of Swans”, known across the country by building such an ecological environment, according to the symposium.
